Research Focus

We are eager to better understand emissions, transport, chemical processes, and deposition of the important chemical species existing in the atmosphere with novel instrumentation, computer modeling, and field observations. The main targets are trace gases and aerosols relevant to climate change and air pollution, and the main domain includes the troposphere and the stratosphere.

Research Topics

    • Observations of NO2, aerosols, and clouds with remote sensing techniques
    • Analysis of global NOx observations by passenger aircraft
    • Atmospheric observation of ozone and aerosols by research vessels and cargo ships
    • Simulation of CO2 and NOx by global chemistry-transport model
    • Analysis of the changes in CO2 and NOx emissions in Japan and Asia
    • Building a CO2 / NOx emission inventory in Japanese cities
    • Analysis of black carbon in the Greenland ice core
    • Observation of organic compounds of marine origin by research ships
